July Sale Catalogue Grows

JulySale_catalogue_front_FINAL_pngFasig-Tipton has catalogued 349 selected yearlings for The July Sale, to be held on Tuesday, July 10, at the company’s Newtown Paddocks in Lexington, Kentucky.  The sale will begin at 10 am.

“July was a very healthy market last year, and as a result, consignors have responded with increased quality and quantity,” said Fasig-Tipton President Boyd Browning.  “This year’s catalogue is our largest for July in nearly a decade, and boasts a significant uptick in sire power, as well.”

This year’s catalogue cover features 2017 Starlet S. (G1) winner DREAM TREE, who is undefeated at two and three.  She is the latest success story to come from July, which is annually a top ranked North American yearling sale by percentage of Grade 1 winners, graded stakes winners, and two-year-old winners.

Nominations are also open for Fasig-Tipton’s popular July Selected Horses of Racing Age Sale, which will be held the day prior to The July Sale, on Monday, July 9. Fasig-Tipton will accept nominations for the Horses of Racing Age Sale through late June.

“The July Selected Horses of Racing Age Sale was one of the strongest sales on the auction calendar last year,” continued Browning.  “The sale’s timing makes it very popular with buyers looking to load up their racing stables ahead of the major summer race meetings.”

The July Sale catalogue may now be viewed online and via the Equineline catalogue app.  Print catalogues will be available beginning June 12.

Fasig-Tipton is deeply saddened to report the passing of the respected and much-loved Thoroughbred horseman, Bill Graves. A senior vice-president with more than 26 years service with the Thoroughbred auction company, Bill passed away after a short illness on May 30 at University of Kentucky Hospital. Bill’s son, Brian, director of public sales for Gainesway Farm, was at his side for his final days.

A native of Lynchburg, Virginia, Bill developed a formidable reputation as an elite competitor on the national show horse circuit. He competed at the top levels with much success. He was inducted into the Virginia Horse Show Association’s Hall of Fame in 2007.

In his early 20’s, Bill came to Lexington to begin a lifetime career with Thoroughbreds. He quickly showed exceptional skill as a yearling showman in Saratoga and Kentucky. He started Graves Stable with his late wife, Michele, and they were routinely leading consignors at Fasig-Tipton’s premier two-year-olds in training sales at Calder Race Course in Florida.

In 1992, Bill was recruited by Fasig-Tipton to review and manage its Selected Yearling Sales process. His talent and ability for finding exceptional quality were unparalleled. Much of the growth of the company’s yearling sales in Kentucky and Saratoga resulted directly from Bill’s eye for superior yearlings and his ability to recruit them from existing consignors and from many clients new to Fasig-Tipton’s selected auction schedule.

Though a lifetime of achievements, Bill was unquestionably proudest of the accomplishments of his son, Brian, as a horseman, and, with his wife, Leslie, as the parents of Bill’s three treasured grandchildren, Will, Catherine, and Carson. He is also survived by his brother, Reed Graves, and by his sister, Elizabeth (Ditty) Stone, both of Lynchburg, Virginia, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home at 463 East Main Street in Lexington on Saturday, June 2 from 5:00-7:00 pm.

A Celebration of Bill’s life will be held in the sales pavilion at Fasig-Tipton on Newtown Pike, Lexington, KY, on Monday, June 4 at 2:30 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance, 821 Corporate Drive, Lexington, KY 40503.

Catalogue for The Gulfstream Sale Now Online

Gulstream_catalogue_front_FINALFasig-Tipton has catalogued 158 entries for The Gulfstream Sale of Selected Two-Year-Olds in Training, to be held on Wednesday, March 28, in the racetrack’s walking ring.  The sale will begin at 3 pm.

The under tack show is scheduled for Monday, March 26, beginning at 9 am.

“This is an exciting catalogue,” said Fasig-Tipton President Boyd Browning.  “There is strong sire power, quality individuals at a variety of price levels, as well as some exciting new faces in the consignor ranks coming to Gulfstream for the first time.  Additionally, this year’s sale is being held during Florida Derby week, which will bring extra buzz to the auction.”

Featured on the front cover of this year’s catalogue are current undefeated Grade 1 winner and Kentucky Oaks candidate DREAM TREE, and MOR SPIRIT, dominant winner of last year’s Metropolitan H. (G1).  The back cover features AUDIBLE, eye-catching 5 ½ length winner of the Holy Bull S. (G2) on February 3rd, as well as current graded stakes winners MOPOTISM, FOURSTAR CROOK, and SHAKHIMAT.

“Since conducting our first sale at Gulfstream in 2015, the racetrack success of our graduates has been nothing short of remarkable,” continued Browning.  “In just a short time, Gulfstream grads have claimed many of the sport’s biggest races, including the Kentucky Derby, Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, Florida Derby, Met Mile, Del Mar Futurity, and both the Futurity and Starlet Stakes at Los Alamitos.  Most recently, 2017 sale grad AUDIBLE romped in the Holy Bull Stakes at Gulfstream – 11 months after he breezed over the same dirt race track in our under tack show.”

The catalogue is now available online and will also be available via the Equineline sales catalogue app.  Print catalogues will be available from Fasig-Tipton offices by Monday, February 19.
