Lady Aurelia to be Offered at Fasig-Tipton November Sale

Multiple Group 1 winner and Champion LADY AURELIA will be offered at this year’s Fasig-Tipton November Sale, to be held on November 4 in Lexington, Kentucky.  Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency will consign the four-year-old daughter of SCAT DADDY on behalf of Barbara Banke’s Stonestreet and co-owner Peter Leidel.

“Lady Aurelia is the embodiment of Stonestreet’s breeding program,” said Banke.  “A brilliant filly out of a Champion, she took on all comers across the globe at the pinnacle of our sport.  The first American-trained Cartier winner when she was named two-year-old filly of the year, her talent and raw speed were breathtaking.”

Trained throughout her career by Wesley Ward, LADY AURELIA showed brilliance from the start.  Following her 7 1/2 length debut win at Keeneland in April of her two-year-old year, her chart read: “… was unchallenged while shattering the track record.”

Making the trip to Royal Ascot for her second start, LADY AURELIA blistered the field by 7 widening lengths in the Queen Mary S. (G2), a performance that led jockey Frankie Dettori to exclaim: “To win a sprint by seven lengths at Royal Ascot, I’ve never seen anything like that, especially from a two-year-old.”  She followed her Queen Mary win with a commanding gate-to-wire victory in the Darley Prix Morny (G1) at Deauville that August.  Her masterful two-year-old campaign resulted in a Cartier Award as Europe’s Champion Two-Year-Old Filly.

Returning in the spring of her three-year-old year, LADY AURELIA claimed the Giant’s Causeway S. at Keeneland, and then bested males in Royal Ascot’s King’s Stand S. (G1) before being beaten a nose in the Coolmore Nunthorpe S. (G1) at York.  On the board in eight of ten career starts, LADY AURELIA is a stakes winner in three countries.

“Lady Aurelia is the embodiment of equine royalty,” said consignor John Sikura of Hill ‘n’ Dale.  “Her performances were historic and her wins emphatic at the highest levels of racing.  She is a grand physical specimen and Scat Daddy is arguably the most successful international sire we have seen in more than a decade. She is the rarest of champions and we are honored to represent her this November.”

Added Fasig-Tipton President Boyd Browning: “Lady Aurelia is a truly special offering based upon her accomplishments around the world, highlighted by two wins at Royal Ascot.  She has the potential to become a broodmare of historic proportions.”

“The racetrack successes of the horses we breed and raise are both our reputation and legacy,” continued Banke.  “We are a commercial breeder and were lucky enough to stay in after her sale as a yearling and enjoy her success with our partners.  We remain involved in the family through her dam and a half-sister, and I look forward to watching Lady Aurelia take her many talents to her broodmare career.”

A tentative date for a 2-year-olds in training sale has been set for June 5. Tentative dates for a yearling sale are September 24th or 25th.

“We’re thrilled to have Fasig-Tipton back in California and to host these sales at Santa Anita Park,” said The Stronach Group’s COO Tim Ritvo. “The Fasig-Tipton Gulfstream Sale in March has been an incredible success for both Gulfstream and Fasig-Tipton and we want to continue building on that relationship here at Santa Anita. These sales are exciting for horsemen as well as fans.  Fasig-Tipton is a wonderful partner and our work with them allows us to reenergize our facilities with different events while continuing to bring the inventory right to our horsemen.”

Fasig-Tipton President Boyd Browning said: “We are very excited to be returning to the auction marketplace in California. Santa Anita is the perfect venue to conduct quality sales in California. We will work closely with The Stronach Group to serve the California West Coast marketplace.”

The venture is receiving support throughout the industry.

Santana, President and CEP of Fairplex, the parent company of Barretts Sales. “We applaud Santa Anita for stepping up and taking the lead to support the equine sales industry, and keeping a footprint on the West Coast. We look forward to supporting them, and the industry, in the future.”

Doug Burge, President of the California Breeders Association said: “The CTBA has worked diligently the last few years with Barretts and the Los Angeles County Fair to guarantee a smooth transition with the commercial sales offered in California. We are extremely gratified with the support shown by both Santa Anita and Fasig Tipton, as this partnership will provide the needed stability and confidence for California breeders.”

Terry Lovingier, Chairman of the CTBA Sales Committee and Thoroughbred Owners of California Owner Relations Committee, said the Fasig-Tipton Santa Anita sales will benefit the entire California horse industry.

“I’m excited and pleased to have been part of working with Santa Anita and CTBA to bring a brand name sales company to a brand name race track,” stated Lovingier. “It’s best for all breeders and owners in California and provides the much needed stability we all need in the horse industry. In data recently released by The BloodHorse MarketWatch, Saratoga is once again the top ranked North American yearling sale by percentage of Grade 1 winners and graded stakes winners produced from horses sold.

This year’s catalogue cover features six Grade 1 winners – AVENGE, BATTLE OF MIDWAY, BOLT D’ORO, MOONSHINE MEMORIES, RUSHING FALL, and STORMY LIBERAL – all of which have captured Grade 1 victories since last year’s sale.
