Midlantic Fall Yearlings Sale Expanded to Two Days

Fasig-Tipton has expanded its Midlantic Fall Yearlings Sale to two days as a result of a high volume of entries.  The sale, originally scheduled for Tuesday, October 3, will now be held over two days – Monday, October 2 and Tuesday, October 3.  The catalogue will consist of 495 entries.

The Monday session will begin at 4 pm and offer hips 1-150.  The Tuesday session will begin at 10 am and offer hips 151-495.

“As a result of a fantastic sale last year and the success of recent sales graduates like Stellar Wind, this year’s catalogue has grown by 32% over last year,” said Midlantic Sales Director Paget Bennett.  “By adding the extra session to Monday afternoon, buyers and sellers will be able to conduct their business without having to alter their travel arrangements.”

Eclipse Champion Finest City to be offered at Fasig-Tipton November Sale

FINEST CITY, 2016 Eclipse Champion Female Sprinter, will be offered at the Fasig-Tipton November Sale on November 6 in Lexington, Kentucky.  She will be consigned by trainer Ian Steele Kruljac on behalf of owner Seltzer Thoroughbreds.

FINEST CITY defeated seven G1 winners, including defending champion WAVELL AVENUE and PAULASSILVERLINING, in the 2016 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint on her way to Eclipse Award honors.  The multiple graded stakes winner and millionaire also established a new track record for 6 ½ furlongs in winning the 2016 Great Lady M Stakes (G2) at Los Alamitos.

“Finest City has been a dream to care for,” said Kruljac. “Her brilliance, durability, versatility and personality have given us a lifetime of memories.  She has battled the best mares of her generation on any surface and at any distance.”

A versatile and consistent performer at the highest levels, FINEST CITY has earned black type in 10 graded stakes races at four different race tracks.  A multiple graded stakes winner at 6 ½ and 7 furlongs on dirt, FINEST CITY is also multiple G1 placed on dirt at distances ranging from 1 mile to 1 1/8 miles.  She was also beaten just a head in last year’s John C. Mabee S. (G2) on turf.

A five-year-old daughter of City Zip, FINEST CITY is out of the multiple stakes performer Be Envied, who is also a multiple stakes producer.  Her deep female family includes grade 1 winning two-year-olds BURNING ROMA and SQUANDER.

FINEST CITY will make her final start in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (G1) at Del Mar, where she will defend her title.

“We are blessed to have one more chapter to write in this year’s Breeders Cup Filly and Mare Sprint before she goes to auction and begins a well deserved career as a broodmare – and passes on her brilliance for years to come,” added Kruljac.

Commented Fasig-Tipton President Boyd Browning: “Finest City is a truly special offering – an Eclipse Champion and Breeders’ Cup Champion with the looks and pedigree to match.  We’re honored that her connections have chosen our November Sale for such an exceptional racemare.”
