In a repeat of his showing at the Midlantic Fall Yearling Sale on October 4, CURLIN was represented by the session topper on the first day of The October Sale when Hip 293 hammered down for $350,000 in Lexington, KY. Joe Minor’s JSM Equine purchased the colt, who is a half-brother to MSW/GSP ROCK CANDY, via agent Justin Casse from the consignment of VanMeter-Gentry Sales, agent.
Earlier in the session, a filly (Hip 144) by MEDAGLIA D’ORO took the lead for the fillies when sold to Rick Porter’s Fox Hill Farm for $300,000. Purchased via Tom McGreevy, agent from the consignment of Brookdale Sales, agent, the attractive filly is out of the G1 winning UNBRIDLED’S SONG mare MAGNIFICENT SONG.
Hip 204, a colt by MEDAGLIA D’ORO also broke the $300,000 mark mid-day when purchased by that price by Alex and Jo Ann Lieblong from the consignment of Taylor Made Sales Agency. That colt is a half-brother to three winners from as many to race out of the G1-Princess Rooney H. winner MISTICAL PLAN, by GAME PLAN.
In the first session, 246 yearlings changed hands for a total of $8,306,400, good for an average of $33,766. The RNA rate was down from last year’s first session. During today’s session, 21 horses sold for $100,000 or more, up from 15 in the first session last year.
The October Sale continues Tuesday, October 25 at 10 am. Hips 417-832 will be offered on Tuesday, with the remainder of the catalogue to be offered beginning at 10 am on Wednesday, October 26.
