The July Selected Sale of Horses of Racing Age showcased a variety of ready-to-run racehorses on the evening of July 11, led by a pair of graded stakes winning mares.
Stormy Lucy (Hip 430), winner of last term’s Matriarch S. (G1), was sold for $575,000. SF Bloodstock purchased the Stormy Atlantic mare from the consignor of Taylor Made Sales Agency. That buyer also purchased Sugar Swirl S. (G3) winner Best Behavior (Hip 499) in the ring for $250,000, also from the Taylor Made consignment.
The evening’s offerings, which featured the dispersal of Eutrophia Farm, also included a handful of broodmares, yearlings, and unraced two-year-olds. The dispersal grossed $1,673,000.
Kitness (Hip 405), an eight-year-old daughter of Storm Cat, topped the broodmares offered when sold for $205,000 to I. Green from the consignment of Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent. Kitness sold with her 2016 Candy Ride (ARG) and in foal to Competitive Edge.
That mare’s 2014 filly by Lemon Drop Kid, Pat the Cat (Hip 422) was the top priced two-year-old when sold for $100,000 to Stephen Lyster Racing. The top yearling was Hip 415, a filly by Speightstown, which sold for $185,000 to Cromwell Bloodstock. All dispersal horses were consigned by Taylor Made Sales agency as agent.
Overall, 72 horses changed hands for a total of $5,048,500, a 26.3% increase over the 2015 gross. The average was up 14.1% to $70,118 and the RNA rate decreased to 20.9%, down 11.4% from the 2015 renewal.
